Bubble Up Pizza Casserole – A Quick, 5 Ingredient Dinner Recipe

I can’t believe that I haven’t shared this Bubble Up Pizza Casserole Recipe before! It is one of those recipes that we make frequently, but I never thought about writing about it until now.

And I probably wouldn’t have thought of it at all if I hadn’t received an email asking me for recipes that required 5 ingredients or less.

However, when I shared the Apple Fritters, Peach Cobbler, and Apple Crisp recipes with her, she informed me that she wanted a quick and easy dinner recipe instead.

So I went back and searched through all of the main dish recipes that I have shared in the past. Although many of the recipes can be adapted to include store-bought shortcuts and therefore decrease the number of ingredients, there wasn’t any that I could think of that started off using just 5 ingredients.

But that all changed when I couldn’t decide what to make for dinner one evening. It had been a hectic week, and there was no time to plan and prepare meals ahead of time.

So when someone suggested the idea of making Bubble Up Pizza for dinner, I quickly agreed! It was a recipe that I started to make when the kids were younger.

cut biscuit dough
Cut each biscuit in bite size pieces. We prefer to cut our biscuits in 8 sections so that it is easier to eat.

It was one of those recipes that made everyone happy and it was a huge time saver on busy weeknights. Now it is one of our go-to dinner recipes when either we are short on time or energy.

It is easy to prepare and uses only 5 common ingredients. And within 30 minutes, dinner is on the table!

Bubble Up Pizza Recipe

This recipe starts with a tube of refrigerated biscuit dough. Although you can use whatever brand or size of biscuits, we prefer to use Grand Biscuits.

biscuits and sauce
Toss the biscuit pieces and cooked and drained ground sausage with a jar of pizza sauce.

The larger diameter of the Grand biscuits tend to hold the other ingredients better than when using the smaller biscuits in this recipe.

Open the tube of biscuits and cut each one into 8 pieces. Then place them in a large bowl.

Next, pour in the jar of pizza sauce and add in a pound of cooked and drained Italian sausage. Yes, you can substitute turkey sausage, plant based ‘sausage’ or even use ground beef in this Bubble Up Pizza recipe f you prefer.

pepperoni and cheese
Top your Bubble Up Pizza with your favorite toppings. However, this will take you over 5 ingredients.

Toss the mixture in the bowl until the biscuits are well coated with the pizza sauce and the ground sausage is evenly distributed throughout.

Then pour into a greased 9 x 13 baking dish and spread the biscuit dough evenly across the pan.

Next, top with the shredded cheese and pepperoni slices. Of course, if you want to add any other ingredients that you enjoy on a pizza, feel free to do so.

However, it would no longer be a 5 Ingredient Bubble Up Pizza Recipe!

Once you have the toppings on the casserole, it is ready to bake in a preheated oven. Bake until the biscuits are cooked and the cheese is bubbly, melted, and just starting to brown.

Remove the pan from the oven and let it sit for a few minutes before serving.

Enjoy!
