Crock Pot Buffalo Chicken Dip Recipe – The Perfect Party Appetizer

Buffalo chicken dip is one of the most popular appetizers served at parties.

Whether it is a tailgate party, work potluck, or a summertime picnic, you can sure to find this delicious, mouth-watering dip on the serving table.

The tangy flavor of the buffalo sauce that coats the shredded chicken is balanced out perfectly with the cream cheese and ranch dressing sauce.

This allows those that don’t like spicy food to enjoy the taste of this delicious buffalo chicken dip as well.

You can serve the Buffalo dip directly out of the crock pot or transfer it to a serving dish.

Use Shredded Chicken

Although you can purchased canned shredded chicken, I prefer to buy a cooked rotisserie chicken at our local grocery store.

Then when I get home, I immediately remove the skin and pull the warm chicken away from the bones. I then put the meat in a covered container and keep it in the fridge for use throughout the week.

But there are other ways that you can make shredded chicken if you didn’t want to get a whole chicken. In fact, whenever I purchase a large family pack of chicken breasts and I have some leftover, I will use my 6 quart Instant Pot to make my Easy Shredded Chicken recipe.

And if I am not ready to use the meat right away, I will measure out 2-3 cups and put the prepared chicken in a freezable container or use my Food Saver.

Then anytime a recipe calls for shredded chicken, I can just open the freezer and it is ready to go!

You can also do this with a large package of chicken thighs, chicken leg quarters or make a cook a whole chicken in your Air Fryer, Instant Pot, Crock Pot or oven.

Although you can shred your own chicken, I find it easiest to purchase a cooked rotisserie chicken from the grocery store and shred it myself. One small rotisserie chicken equals about 3 1/2 cups of shredded chicken.

Crock Pot or Stove Top?

Because I typically make this Buffalo Chicken Dip to serve at a party or gathering, I prefer to use my Crock Pot instead of making it on the stove.

I love the fact that I can just throw everything in the slow cooker and there is only one pot to clean when it comes time to do the dishes.

Although, I have to admit, I try to use my crock pot any time I am making a dip or appetizer for a tailgate party or potluck gathering. It just makes it easy to keep the dip warm until ready to be served.

However, you could also make this on the stove by melting all the ingredients together in a medium-sized pot.

Then transfer it to a serving bowl and place the bowl on a plate full of celery, tortilla chips, crackers, baguette slices, etc..

Either way that you cook it, the dip tastes amazing!

cubed cream cheese
It is best to cut the cream cheese into cubes so that it melts faster. Then stir the melted cream cheese in the mixture until no chunks of cream, cheese is visible.

When the cream cheese has melted completely reduce the heat to low and continue to cook. Be sure to stir occasionally so that the dip doesn’t burn on the sides of the slow cooker.

Immediately before serving, add the shredded cheese to the mixture and stir. Continue to stir until the cheese has melted.

Serve with celery sticks, crackers, baguette slices and/or tortilla chips.
