Halloween Mummy Meatball Sliders are a fun and easy meal to serve at a Halloween party or for dinner before heading out to trick-or-treat. They are easily made with slider rolls, meatballs, marinara sauce, cheese and strips of crescent roll dough.
However, what turns ordinary meatball sliders into a festive Halloween meal is how they are assembled. Thin strips of crescent roll dough are placed over the meatballs to resemble mummy bandages.
The top layer of the slider rolls is then placed over the upper ends of the crescent strips. The top buns should sit slightly behind the meatballs so that the bandages and eyes remain visible.

Once the sliders come out of the oven, add eyes made with mozzarella cheese and black olives. For an even easier option, place candy eyes on the sliders after they have cooled slightly.
The result is a fun Halloween dinner that looks impressive but requires very little hands-on work. Serve the sliders at a Halloween party or as an easy meal before trick-or-treating begins.
Halloween Mummy Meatball Sliders
You can make these sliders with homemade meatballs or save time by using frozen meatballs. Because the meatballs are covered with marinara sauce and cheese, good-quality frozen meatballs work extremely well.
The recipe starts with a connected package of 12 slider rolls. Hawaiian rolls are a good choice because they are soft, slightly sweet and sturdy enough to hold the meatballs.
Keep the rolls connected while you slice them horizontally. This gives you one large bottom section and one large top section.
The meatballs are then placed on the bottom rolls. Crescent roll strips are arranged over and around the meatballs before the top section of the rolls is added.
The top buns are not placed directly over the center of the meatballs. Instead, they sit slightly toward the back so the meatballs remain visible between the top and bottom buns.

Slider Rolls
You will need one package of 12 connected slider rolls. Hawaiian rolls work well, although you can use any small, soft dinner rolls that come connected in a package.
Use a long serrated knife to slice the entire package horizontally through the center. Keep both the top and bottom sections intact.
Meatballs
You will need 12 fully cooked meatballs, one for each slider.
Frozen meatballs are the quickest option. Heat them according to the package directions before assembling the sliders. They should be completely cooked and warm before going into the oven.
You can also use homemade meatballs. Just make sure they are small enough to fit on the slider rolls while still leaving room for the top buns.

Marinara Sauce
Use your favorite prepared marinara or pasta sauce. Only add a thin layer to the bottom rolls and a small spoonful over each meatball.
Too much sauce can make the bottoms of the sliders soggy. Warm the remaining sauce and serve it on the side for dipping.
Mozzarella Cheese
Shredded mozzarella cheese melts around the meatballs and helps hold everything together. You can substitute provolone or use a combination of mozzarella and provolone.
If you are making savory eyes, you will also need sliced mozzarella or string cheese.
Crescent Roll Dough
Refrigerated crescent roll dough is used to make the mummy bandages.
A crescent dough sheet is the easiest option because it does not have perforated seams. If you use standard crescent rolls, unroll the dough and pinch the seams together before cutting it into narrow strips.
Mummy Eyes
There are two easy ways to make the mummy eyes.
For savory eyes, cut small circles from mozzarella cheese or slice a mozzarella string cheese into thin rounds. Add a tiny piece of black olive to the center of each piece of cheese.
Candy eyes are another option. They are quick, easy and give the sliders a fun appearance. Add them only after the sliders have finished baking and have cooled for a few minutes.
Candy eyes are sweet, so some people may prefer to remove them before eating the sliders. However, they are an easy decorating option when serving the sliders to children or at a Halloween party.
How To Make Halloween Mummy Meatball Sliders
Begin by preheating the oven to 375°F. Lightly spray a 9 x 13 inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
Use a long serrated knife to slice the connected slider rolls horizontally through the center. Set the top section aside.
Place the bottom section of the rolls in the prepared baking dish. Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce over the cut surface.
Place one cooked meatball in the center of each individual roll. Spoon a small amount of additional marinara sauce over each meatball.
Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese around and over the meatballs. Keep the meatballs visible so that you can arrange the crescent roll strips over them.

Making The Crescent Roll Bandages
Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a lightly floured cutting board.
If you are using standard crescent roll dough, pinch the perforated seams together to make one solid sheet. Use a pizza cutter or sharp knife to cut the dough into narrow strips.
The strips do not need to be perfectly straight or equal in size. Slightly uneven strips will make the mummy bandages look more realistic.
Arrange two or three strips of crescent dough over each meatball. Place some horizontally and others at a slight angle.
Leave a small open space near the upper center of each meatball. This is where the eyes will be added after the sliders are baked.
Let the upper ends of the crescent strips extend toward the back of the meatballs. The top layer of the slider rolls will help hold these ends in place.
Do not completely wrap the meatballs in dough. You want some of the marinara sauce, cheese and meatball to remain visible between the strips to give the Halloween Mummy Sliders that classic look.
Adding The Top Buns
After the crescent strips have been arranged over the meatballs, carefully place the top section of the rolls over the upper ends of the dough.
Position the top buns slightly toward the back of the meatballs. Do not center the top section directly over the bottom rolls because it would cover the mummy faces.
The top buns should rest against the upper portion of the meatballs while leaving the center and front portions exposed.
If necessary, gently move individual top buns back so the crescent strips and the open spaces for the eyes remain visible.
Brush the exposed crescent dough and the tops of the slider rolls with melted butter.

Baking The Sliders
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake the Halloween Mummy Sliders for 15 to 20 minutes.
The sliders are ready when the crescent dough is fully baked and golden brown. The mozzarella cheese should be melted, and the meatballs should be hot in the center.
Check the sliders after approximately 12 minutes. If the top buns are browning faster than the crescent dough, loosely cover the buns with small pieces of aluminum foil. Leave the exposed crescent strips uncovered so they can continue to bake.
Remove the baking dish from the oven and let the sliders cool for 5 minutes before adding the eyes.
Adding The Mummy Eyes
For savory mummy eyes, cut 24 small circles from mozzarella cheese or slice two mozzarella string cheese sticks into thin rounds.
Place two cheese circles in the open space on each meatball. Add a tiny piece of black olive to the center of each cheese circle to form the pupils.
The heat from the sliders will soften the cheese and help it stay in place. You can also use a small dab of warm marinara sauce to hold each eye against the meatball.
If you are using candy eyes, allow the sliders to cool for several minutes before adding them. Candy eyes can begin to melt if they are placed on the sliders immediately after they come out of the oven.
Use a small dab of softened mozzarella cheese or thick marinara sauce to hold the candy eyes in place.

What To Serve With Mummy Meatball Sliders
Serve the sliders with a bowl of warmed marinara sauce for dipping.
For a Halloween party, you can pair them with a vegetable tray, chips, pretzels or fresh fruit. If you are serving the sliders for dinner, add a salad or roasted vegetables.
