Although, no matter how you describe it, you are going to want to keep coming back for more! There is just something about the classic combination of caramel and apples that screams that Autumn is among us.

From the iconic caramel apples that you get at the local county fair to the Caramel Apple Pie Bars that you find at the school bake sale.

I have even made Caramel Apple Dip so that the fresh picked apples from the orchard can take on a whole new flavor. And don’t forget to pull out your Instant Pot to make this easy Caramel Apple Cheesecake!

Can you tell I am in love with this flavor combination? And you will be too with this easy to make fudge recipe!

Although, before I get to the actual recipe, let me first explain where you can find some of the ingredients at the grocery store.

More About The Ingredients

Although this is an easy recipe, the ingredient list is rather unique. Therefore, you most likely won’t have all the items that you need to make caramel apple fudge in your pantry.

However, with a quick trip to the grocery, you can pick up the few items needed and be ready to make this delicious dessert. However, let me help you find those items by explaining what and where they may be located.

dried apples
You can find a bag of dried apples near the dried fruit section of the grocery store.

1. Dried Apples

Although you could use a dehydrator to dry your own apple slices, few of us will actually do that. Instead, it is easier and much faster to purchase a bag of dried apples.

However, where do you find a bag or box of dried apples? Depending on where you shop, there are three possible locations to find this item.

First, check the aisle with the canned fruit. Sometimes the bags of dried fruit are located in the same aisle as the canned peaches, pineapples, and fruit cocktail.

However, if you don’t find it there, look in the baking aisle. Sometimes the bags of dried apples will be next to the canned apple pie filling.

The third option is to look at the end caps in the fresh produce section. Here you might find clear plastic boxes of fresh dried apples, especially if your market promotes local foods.

2. Dulce de Leche

Don’t let the fancy name scare you. Dulce de Leche is a can of condensed, sweetened milk that has been combined with sugar to make a caramel like substance.

It differs from caramel because caramel is made from sugar and water and doesn’t include milk. However, caramel sauce is made by adding milk to thin the consistency to make it pourable.

dulce de leche and white chocolate chips
The recipe starts by melting the Dulce de Leche and white chocolate chips together.

In order to make caramel apple fudge you will need one can of Dulce de Leche. You can most often find it located in the baking aisle next to the sweetened condensed milk and evaporated milk.

However, if you can’t find it at your local grocery store, you can make your own. I make Dulche de Leche in the Instant Pot.

Although, you must plan ahead, because it takes at hour to make. If you don’t have a pressure cooker, you can also boil a can of unopened sweetened condensed milk for 2-3 hours and you will end up with homemade Dulce de Leche.

*However, be sure to follow a specific recipe on how to do this on the stovetop. I have only used my Instant Pot to make this delicious treat.

3. White Chocolate Chips

I am sure you all know where to find white chocolate chips at the grocery store. However, I only added it here to give you the heads up that you will need 2 standard size bags.

Sometimes when I scan a recipe, I look at the ingredients that I need but not necessarily the quantity. For example I would briefly look at this recipe and see that I need a bag of white chocolate chips.

And because the store that I go to doesn’t have an option of a larger size bag of white chocolate chips I would pick up a standard size bag. And that wouldn’t be enough to make this recipe.

Therefore, do yourself a favor and pick up two bags. Even if you picked up two large bags, baking season is right around the corner and you can make an extra batch of Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars with the remainder.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 c. Chopped Dried Apples
  • 13.4 oz. can Dulce de Leche
  • 21 oz. White Chocolate Baking Chips
  • 3 tbsp. Butter, unsalted
  • 1 1/4 tsp. Sea Salt

INSTRUCTIONS

Start by placing a piece of wax paper or parchment paper inside an 8 x 8 inch baking dish. Let the sides overhang so that you can easily remove the fudge once it has set. Set the dish aside.

Chop the dried apples into small ¼ inch pieces until you measure 1 full cup. Set aside.

Place the Dulce de Leche, white chocolate chips, butter, and salt in a large microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high power for 1 minute.

Stir and continue to microwave in 1 minute increments stirring in between each segment until the mixture is smooth. This will take 3 – 5 cycles in the microwave.

Once the fudge is smooth, remove the bowl from the microwave and stir in the chopped dried apples. Pour the fudge in the dish and spread the top even with a silicone spatula.

Place the fudge in the refrigerator and allow it to set for at least 2 hours.

Once the fudge is set, lift it out of the baking dish and cut it into small squares.

Once the fudge is firm enough to cut, lift it out of the baking dish by pulling up on the sides of the wax or parchment paper. Then cut into small squares.

Store the apple caramel fudge in an air tight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator.

Enjoy! Mary
