Air Fryer English Muffin Pizza Recipe

Whenever I am in need of a quick and easy snack, lunch or light dinner I often turn to this Air Fryer English Muffin Pizza recipe. Mini size pizzas that can not only be customized with toppings of your choice, but that are ready to eat in only 10 minutes!

And who couldn’t use a recipe like that? It is a life saver when you have little time to prepare a meal. But it also makes for a great snack in the middle of day when the kids are hungry.

It is one of my favorite recipes to make in the middle of summer because there is no need to heat up the kitchen. Simply prepare the pizzas and put them in your air fryer basket.

Air fryer English muffin pizzas not only are easy to make, they are ready to eat in only 10 minutes!

In minutes the cheese will melt and you will be enjoying a tasty pizza without the need to make pizza dough! They cook so fast that it is easy to make multiple batches which is perfect when you are feeding a crowd.

Once you place the first pizzas in the air fryer prepare the other English muffins. Then keep switching them out until everyone is full and satisfied.

And what better way to please everyone than with individual pizzas? Especially when you don’t have to take time out to make your favorite pizza dough!

INGREDIENTS NEEDED

  • English Muffins

You can use whatever English Muffins that you prefer. Classic, wheat, low-carb or even Gluten-free English Muffins will work for this recipe.

  • Pizza sauce

Use your favorite Pizza sauce, or a homemade pizza sauce made from fresh tomatoes such as my favorite Instant Pot Pizza Sauce recipe. Or if you don’t have pizza sauce on hand you can use Marinara sauce.

Or you can even use Alfredo sauce to make white English muffin pizzas. And don’t forget about a simple mixture of extra virgin olive oil and garlic as the base of the pizza.

Split open the English muffins and toast them in the air fryer before adding your toppings.
  • Shredded Mozzarella cheese

No classic pizza would be complete without Mozzarella cheese. I always have a bag of shredded cheese in my refrigerator or freezer.

However, whenever I realize that someone ate the last of the Mozzarella cheese without letting me know, I adjust and use taco cheese, Monterey Jack or even sliced provolone cheese instead.

  • Pepperoni

Although I typically have standard size pepperoni in the house, this is a great time to pull out that bag of mini pepperoni. Because the English muffin pizzas are small, the mini pepperoni fit perfectly on the crust.

However, if you do use regular pepperoni I recommend cutting them into 4 pieces. It makes it easier to bite through the pizzas without getting a large piece of pepperoni hanging out of your mouth.

Optional Seasoning

Although not absolutely necessary, adding a little dried Italian seasoning or dried oregano to your pizzas will really bump up the flavor. Some brands of pizza sauce are rather bland. Therefore add the extra seasoning to provide that classic pizza flavor that you are looking for.

How To Make Air Fryer English Muffin Pizzas

Although you may be tempted to add the ingredients on top of a fresh English muffin it is better to toast the bread first. This will allow the ‘crust’ to become slightly crisp before the pizza sauce is added.

Therefore, split open your English Muffin and put it in your air fryer basket with the top and bottom crust side down. Then air fry it for at least 3 minutes. You can toast it longer, depending on how crispy you want the crust.

Once it is done to your liking, use tongs to carefully remove the English muffin halves from the air fryer. Then add the pizza sauce, seasoning and pepperoni.

Although you may typically add the cheese before the pepperoni, for this recipe it is best to add the cheese last. That is because the cheese will melt better if it is the top layer. However, be sure that you press down on the top slightly to prevent the strands of cheese from flying around inside the air fryer as it cooks.

Once the mini pizzas are assembled, place them into the air fryer and continue to cook until the cheese is melted and begins to turn golden brown in color.

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 English Muffins
  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • 2 cups shredded Mozzarella cheese
  • 2 oz pepperoni or mini pepperoni
  • Dried Italian seasoning or Oregano
shredded cheese on bread
Although you may typically place the pepperoni on top of the cheese, it is best to add the cheese last for this recipe.

INSTRUCTIONS

Begin by splitting each English muffin in half to expose the nooks and crannies of the inside.

Then working in batches as needed place each one, split side up, in the air fryer for 3 minutes at 400°F (205°C). This will allow the bread to toast just enough that when the pizza sauce is added, it won’t soak into the bread.

Using tongs, carefully remove each muffin and top with pizza sauce.

Then sprinkle the sauce with dried Italian seasoning or oregano. You don’t need much. Just a sprinkle on top of each one will be sufficient.

Now add the pepperoni and cheese and place the pizzas in the air fryer. Again work in batches as needed.

Set the cook time for 4 minutes (still at 400°F) and cook until the cheese is golden brown. Remove from air fryer and let sit 2-3 minutes before serving.

As always, each brand of air fryers cook at different rates. It has been my experience that my Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooker/Air Crisper cooks much faster than my Power 360 Air Fryer Oven.

Therefore, I recommend checking for doneness at the 3 minute mark and keep a close eye on them until you learn how long it will take to cook the English Muffin pizzas in your specific air fryer.
