Air Fryer Apple Pie Roll Ups

Air Fryer Apple Pie Roll Ups are a quick and delicious dessert recipe when you want all the flavors of an apple pie without all the work. Instead of making a whole pie, these individual roll ups are made by loading apple pie filling into a tortilla shells and rolling them up.

Once they are cooked, butter is brushed over the surface and then they are covered in a cinnamon sugar mixture. They are the perfect dessert to make any time of the year as both adults and kids love them.

They are also a great hand held dessert to serve at parties or backyard barbecues. Best of all, they are easy to make! All you need are a few simple ingredients, and you can have them ready to eat in no time.

As much as I love Traditional Apple Pie, I don’t always have the time to make one for the summer holidays. So instead, I will pull out a can of apple pie filling and make an easy apple themed dessert instead.

By far one of the most popular desserts that I make in my Air Fryer 360 is Apple Pie Bombs. Apple pie filling is put inside refrigerator biscuit dough and rolled into a ball. Then they are cooked in the air fryer and topped with butter and cinnamon sugar.

However, when I need a larger dessert to take to a cookout, I will make an Apple Pie Dump Cake instead. Layer apple pie filling, box cake mix, butter and sprinkle a little apple pie spice on top and you have a delicious dessert to share with family and friends.

However, the reason that I love this roll ups recipe is that they are easy to make and they are ready to eat in only 15 minutes!

5 INGREDIENTS REQUIRED

1. Flour Tortillas

Flour tortillas are used as the outer layer of the air fryer apple pie roll ups. Although there are several different size tortillas, it is best to use the soft taco size tortilla shells.

When I tested this recipe with the large burrito size tortillas I found that they were just too big for a hand held dessert. Not only did you have to eat them with a fork and knife, but the tortilla took extra time to crisp up.

Therefore, the next time I made them I decided to go smaller and make them using smallest flour tortilla shells that I could find. I purchased street taco tortillas that were 4.5 inches in diameter.

Although I thought this was going to be the perfect size, I quickly found out that I was wrong. They were simply too small.

What I ended up with was an imbalance of flavor from the tortilla shell and apple pie filling. The street taco tortillas were too small to hold enough apple pie filling to make them taste delicious.

So back to the grocery I went! This time I choose the soft taco flour tortilla shells. These shells were bigger than the street taco shells but smaller than the large burrito tortilla shells.

They were the perfect size to hold enough apple pie filling and to roll into an easy hand held dessert!

2. Apple Pie Filling

In order to make 10 soft taco size air fryer apple pie roll ups, you will need one 15 ounce can of apple pie filling. Brand name, generic or even homemade apple pie filling will work in this recipe.

Although you can use the slices straight out of the can, I prefer to chop the apple slices into smaller chunks. In my opinion it makes eating the roll ups easier.

However the choice is up to you if you want to leave them in slices or cut them into smaller pieces.

3. Melted Butter

The butter will be used to brush on the outside of the apple pie roll ups for two reasons. First, this will allow the tortilla to crisp up perfectly in the air fryer.

However, it will also become the binding agent so that the cinnamon sugar coating can adhere to the outer surface.

You can use salted, unsalted or even plant based butter. The choice is up to you!

4. Cinnamon Sugar Mixture

The perfect cinnamon sugar mixture depends on personal taste preferences, but a general rule of thumb is to use a ratio of 1:4 cinnamon to sugar. Therefore for this recipe use 1/4 cup of cinnamon and mix it with 1 cup of granulated sugar.

However you can adjust the amount of cinnamon that you use based on how sweet you want the topping. Therefore, I recommend starting with 2-3 tablespoons of cinnamon and mix it with the sugar.

Then taste it and see if you want to add more cinnamon to the mixture. You can also add a pinch of salt to bring out the sweetness even more.
