I had never considered making Beer Brats in the Instant Pot until I went to put them on my grill and I was out of propane gas.
Guests were scheduled to arrive within minutes, so I had no time to get the tank refilled.
So instead of heating up my kitchen on a hot summer day, I decided to turn to my 6 quart Instant Pot.
And I am so glad that I did!
They turned out AMAZING!!!
Every brat was moist, juicy, and perfectly cooked. And as an added bonus, the skin didn’t wrinkle after they were taken out of the heat.
How To Make Instant Pot Beer Brats
And making them couldn’t be easier!
First, turn your Instant Pot to the Saute mode. The important thing here is to remember to not add your oil until the display panel reads HOT.
This typically takes 3-5 minutes.
Then add your oil and brats, working in batches, if necessary, to maintain a single layer.
Once the skins turn brown, flip the brats and brown the other sides.
Remove the brats and add the beer to the Instant Pot. Using a flat wooden spatula, deglaze the pot to remove any browned bits.
This will help to prevent getting the BURN notice during the cooking process.
Add the trivet and place all of the brats on top.
All that is left to do is lock the lid, place the valve in the Sealing position and Pressure Cook for 7 minutes!
Once the cooking time is up, allow the pot to naturally release the pressure until the pin drops.
It is that easy!!!
What Type Of Brats To Use?
So you may be wondering what type of brats to use? Does it matter?
The answer is simple. This method of cooking brats in the Instant Pot works with all types and brands of uncooked bratwurst.
In fact we have made both the more expensive Johnsville brats and the cheaper store bought brand and they both turned out perfect.
And we have also made Chicken Brats and yes, this Instant Pot cooking method works the same.
To Poke or Not?
Every time that I have cooked brats the traditional way I have always poked holes in the skin so that they don’t explode.
And I had full intentions of doing so when I made them in the Instant Pot.
However, for whatever reason, I always seem to forget to do it when I make brats in the Instant Pot.
And every time, I worry that I will open the pot to brats that have been split wide open.
But that has never happened. They turn out perfect!
In fact, without the holes, they are able to hold their juices inside the meat. Therefore, they turn out much more juicy than traditional cooking methods.
And as always, if you are not a fan of beer, simply replace the liquid with water or beef stock.
