Crock Pot Beef Tips & Noodles – An Easy Weeknight Meal
What I love about this Beef Tips and Noodles recipe is that it is easy to prepare. It makes for the perfect weeknight meal because in less than 10 minutes everything is in the slow cooker and ready to cook.
All that you have to do before dinner is to add a little thickener and cook the noodles. However, you can save even more time on a busy weeknight if you cook your noodles a day or two in advance.
Then all that you have to do while the gravy thickens up is to heat the noodles. And in 10 minutes, a complete comfort food meal will be on the table and ready to eat.
What Are Beef Tips?
The term beef tips is used in a variety of ways. The technical definition includes a cut of meat that is taken from the tip of a beef tenderloin. It is a tender cut of beef that has a nice ratio of fat which makes the meat extremely flavorful.
However, many people also refer to beef tips as stew meat. Although they are not the same cuts of meat at all.
Stew meat comes from various sections of the cow. They are the leftover meat sections after the larger roasts and steaks are cut.
It can actually get confusing as several grocery stores label a package of stew meat as beef tips. However, stew meat is tough and requires a longer cook time than actual beef tips.
Low and Slow Cooking Method
True beef tips that are cut from the tip of a sirloin take only minutes to cook. Simply throw the Steak Tips on a hot grill or cast iron skillet and they are ready to eat in no time.
However, this is not the case with stew meat. Because stew meat is cut from tough sections of a cow they need a longer and slower cooking time.
Although you could make Beef Tips and Noodles on the stove top, this will require approximately 90 minutes for the meat to break down and become tender. And for most of us, this would have to be a weekend recipe when we have the time to spend in the kitchen.
Instead, there are other, more efficient ways to cook the meat without having to closely monitor it on the stove. Placing the meat in the slow cooker is a great example.
In fact, as much as you may want to cook the meat on the high heat setting, it is best to let it cook on low heat for 7-8 hours. This low cooking temperature will give the fibers in the beef enough time to break down and become juicy and tender.
However, if you have a pressure cooker, you can also make Instant Pot Beef Tips and Noodles in a fraction of the time. The pressure cooking process will break down the meat perfectly and dinner can be ready to eat in just about one hour.

INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 ounce packet of brown gravy mix, low-sodium
- 1 10.75 ounce can of condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1 small onion diced ( about 1/3 cup)
- 1-2 cloves of garlic minced
- 2 lbs beef stew meat
- 2 Tablespoons of flour
- 1/4 cup water
For Serving
- Cooked egg noodles (or any type of pasta, mashed potatoes, or rice)
INSTRUCTIONS
In a medium bowl, whisk together the gravy mix, beef broth and Worcestershire sauce until no clumps are visible. Then add the onion, garlic, and cream of mushroom soup and whisk until well combined. Set the gravy mixture aside.
Optional Step – Place the meat in a large resealable bag. Add enough flour to lightly coat the stew meat. Add salt and pepper to the bag and toss to coat. Then heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet placed over medium-high heat. Add the flour coated beef to the skillet and let it brown on all sides.
Although this optional step adds more flavor to the Beef Tips and Noodles, it is not crucial. If you have the extra time to complete this step, great! If not, that is okay too.
Place the stew meat (and any drippings if you browned the meat in the skillet) into the slow cooker. Then pour the gravy mixture over top of the beef tips and carefully stir to coat.
Cover the crock pot and cook the beef tips on LOW for 7 to 8 hours. If you have a Programmable Crock Pot, set it for 7 hours and let the pot switch to the Keep Warm setting until you get home.
Then in a small bowl whisk together the flour and water until no clumps are visible. Stir the slurry in with the beef tips and gravy.
Cook for 10 minutes, stirring frequently or until the gravy thickens to the desired consistency. Serve over cooked noodles.
