Air Fryer Pasta Chips

If you are looking for a quick, easy and crunchy snack make Air Fryer Pasta Chips. Cooked pasta noodles that are seasoned and then placed in the air fryer until they become nice and crisp.

Not only is it an easy recipe, but it costs much less than purchasing a bag of chips. Not to mention that it is much healthier because it contains less preservatives and it isn’t cooked in the deep fryer.

All that is required is that you cook the pasta to al’ dente consistency. Then sprinkle on your favorite seasoning and air fry it until it turns into a crunchy snack.

Pasta chips are all the rage right now and there is no easier way to make them than in the air fryer!

It is a fantastic recipe to make in the middle of summer when the kids are wanting a snack in the middle of the day. Or how about when you go to watch that late night movie and the urge hits you for something salty and crunchy?

Best of all, you can mix up the spices and seasonings that you use each and every time. For instance, the standard recipe calls for Parmesan cheese and dry Italian seasoning.

However, you could use dry Ranch dressing or even a Chipotle Barbecue seasoning to give the chips a new flavor every time you make them. And for those who love salt & vinegar chips, why not try them here?

Therefore, because it is a snack that is so versatile, I will give you the base recipe and you can adapt the seasonings to what you and your family prefer.

*Specific measurements and complete recipe instructions are located in a printable recipe card at the bottom of this article. However, be sure to continue to read the tips and tricks to making this recipe below.

INGREDIENTS

  • 12 ounces bow-tie pasta
  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning

For Serving, optional

  • 1/2 tablespoon parsley fresh, chopped
  • warm marinara sauce, for dipping

INSTRUCTIONS

The first step in making Air Fryer Pasta Chips is to cook the pasta. Start by placing a large pot of water over medium-high heat.

Once the water comes to a rapid and consistent boil, add the raw pasta to the water and 1 tablespoon of salt. Cook the raw pasta per instructions on the package for al’ dente consistency.

Be sure to cook the pasta only until it reaches al’ dente consistency so that it holds up when put in the air fryer.

Because all brands of pasta recommend different cooking times, be sure to read the instructions on the side or the back of the package. Once the pasta is al’ dente, drain the noodles and let them sit in the colander while you prepare the air fryer.

Spray the air fryer basket with a high heat nonstick cooking spray such as olive oil or avocado oil. Place the basket back inside the air fryer.

Then preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Even if your brand of air fryer doesn’t have a preheat setting, be sure to allow the air fryer to heat up for 4 minutes prior to proceeding with the recipe.

Season the Cooked Pasta

Place the drained pasta in a medium size bowl. Then drizzle the olive oil over top of the pasta and toss to completely coat the pasta.

Sprinkle Parmesan cheese, ground black pepper, dry Italian seasoning, and garlic powder over the pasta and stir until well coated. When the air fryer is nice and hot open the air fryer basket.

Working in batches if necessary, place the seasoned pasta in a single layer into the air fryer basket. It is okay if a few of the pasta chips overlap in the air fryer basket, however, you generally want a single layer for even cooking.

While the past is draining, preheat the air fryer and gather the seasonings.

Close the air fryer basket and cook at 400°F (200°C) for 5 minutes. Then using a long pair or tongs or a long handled spatula, carefully flip the pasta over.

Continue to air fry for an additional 2-3 minutes or until the pasta turns golden brown in color. Then carefully remove the pasta chips from the air fryer and place them on a baking sheet lined with paper towels or a wire cooling rack.

Repeat the cooking process with the remaining pasta chips. Once the pasta chips have been removed from the air fryer, place them in a bowl or on a serving platter and garnish with parsley.

Serve with warm marinara sauce for dipping.

Although they are best when they are enjoyed immediately, you can store any leftovers in an air tight container at room temperature. They will remain good for 4-5 days.

Common Recipe Variations

1. Switch Up The Type of Pasta To Use For Pasta Chips

Although this recipe calls for bow-tie pasta, or often called by its more official term, farfalle pasta, you can use other types of pasta to make chips as well. However, use pasta that can easily be held in your hand and not twisting noodles such as spaghetti or fettuccine.

Other types of pasta that you can use to make pasta chips:

  • Rigatoni
  • Penne
  • Campanelle
  • Cavatappi
  • Fusilli

Although this recipe calls for bow-tie pasta, you can use just about any type of hand held pasta that you can think of.

2. Switch Up The Dipping Sauce

Classic Italian seasoning flavors pair well with marinara sauce. Therefore it is the preferred dipping sauce for this recipe.

However, you can choose a variety of dipping sauces to mix the flavors up a bit. Here are some suggested dipping sauces for your pasta chips:

Once of my favorite ways to change up the flavor is to use a Creole seasoning and a spicy sour cream and Sriracha sauce dip.

3. Try Different Spices and Seasonings

Although this recipe for Air Fryer Pasta Chips sticks to the classic Italian seasonings, you can switch up how you flavor them with just a few simple ingredient swaps.

After the pasta has been boiled and drained, place the pasta in a medium bowl and toss them in a little olive oil. Then proceed with whatever seasoning that you prefer.

Below I have listed some of my favorite ways to season pasta chips:

  • Dry Ranch Dressing
  • Taco Seasoning
  • Fajita Seasoning
  • Chili Powder
  • Dry Ranch Dressing & Chipotle Powder
  • Chipotle Seasoning
  • Cajun Seasoning
  • Garlic Salt & Parmesan cheese

Enjoy! Mary
