Slow Cooker Zesty Chicken has become a regular menu item at our house. Not only is it absolutely delicious, it takes only minutes to prepare.
Fall apart, tender chicken breasts cooked in a sweet and tangy sauce and cooked in a slow cooker for the perfect, hands off main dish!
And best of all, it requires only 4 main ingredients. I don’t know about you, but I can use more recipes like this in my life!
Also, as an added bonus, this is a recipe that you can meal prep as a freezer meal!
Freezer Meal Preparation
When we buy a large amount of chicken breasts from the grocery store, we immediately begin dividing it when we get home. We trim off the fat and cut the large chicken breasts in half horizontally to make them a little thinner.
Then we divided them equally between gallon size resealable bags based on what recipes that we are planning to make.
For this Slow Cooker Zesty Chicken Recipe, place 4 chicken breasts in the bag. Then mix together the remaining ingredients and pour it on top. Next seal the bag and massage the chicken in the sauce to coat. Label and place flat in the freezer.
When you are ready to cook it, simply take it out of the freezer and dump the ingredients in your slow cooker!
This makes for a great meal when you forget to thaw something out for a fresh cooked meal. Or you just don’t have the time or energy to come up with something for dinner!
Slow Cooker Zesty Chicken Recipe
However, you don’t have to make this with frozen chicken breast. In fact, if you want to use fresh chicken, the process is just as easy.
The first thing that you want to do is to spray the liner of your slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray. No, this isn’t absolutely necessary. However, it will make clean up much easier!
Next, place your chicken in the slow cooker. Now mix the sauce ingredients in a small bowl.
The mixture of mustard, maple syrup and red wine vinegar make for the perfect Sweet & Tangy sauce.
When the sauce is well incorporated pour over the chicken. Then toss the chicken to coat both sides.
Now set your cook timer on your slow cooker and wait until the Zesty Chicken is cooked through!

- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup Dijon mustard
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 2 TBSP red wine vinegar
- salt & pepper, to taste
- parlsey and/or thyme , optional
- Place the 4 chicken breasts in a large resealable bag.
- Mix the remaining ingredients in a bowl and then pour over the chicken. Allow at least 1 hour to marinate or label and freeze flat for a freezer meal.
- Cook in Crockpot on Low for 8 hours or High for 4 hours.
