No Yeast Dinner Rolls Recipe

It is no wonder why I love this No Yeast Dinner Rolls recipe so much. The rolls are super easy to make with just 6 basic ingredients that you more than likely already have in your kitchen.

Whether you’re serving a hearty stew, a comforting bowl of chili, or a holiday feast, a fresh roll on the side always makes everything better. That’s why I’m such a fan of this easy recipe.

It’s simple and doesn’t require any of the extra steps that yeast breads do. In less than 30 minutes, you will have soft, buttery rolls on the table, ready to enjoy.

Why No Yeast?

Yeast is often a key ingredient when making bread, but for this recipe, you won’t need it at all. That’s the beauty of these No Yeast Dinner Rolls.

By not using yeast, you don’t have to worry about proofing, waiting for the dough to rise, or hoping the yeast activates properly. That means less time and less effort for you. Plus, you can avoid any last-minute panic if you realize you’re out of yeast.

So how do these rolls rise? This recipe relies on baking powder as the leavening agent, which means the dough rises right in the oven as it bakes. Although they aren’t quite as light and airy as traditional yeast dinner rolls, they are still delicious.

So, if you are out of yeast, or simply don’t have the time to let the dough proof on the counter, these rolls are the perfect solution.

Quick and Easy Preparation

With just six basic ingredients, many of which you probably already have on hand, you can make up a batch of rolls in no time.

Ingredients Required

  • Unsalted butter
  • Milk
  • Sugar
  • Salt
  • Baking powder
  • All-purpose flour

Making No Yeast Dinner Rolls

To start, preheat your oven and prepare a baking sheet. I like to line my baking sheets with a silicone baking mat. Although you can also line the baking sheet with parchment paper, I can’t recommend silicone baking mats enough.

They’re reusable and save money in the long run. Instead of using parchment paper which I have to throw away after each use, I simply wash off the silicone baking mat and it can be used over and over again.

Once you mix the ingredients, you may need to add a little more flour so that the dough isn’t sticky.

Once your baking sheet is ready, it’s time to mix the dough. In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, milk, sugar, salt, and baking powder.

Then use a whisk to incorporate everything thoroughly. Then, gradually add in the flour, stirring as you go until the dough forms a ball.

Now, depending on your kitchen conditions (like humidity), you might find that the dough is a little sticky. If that’s the case, don’t worry!

Just add a little more flour, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough is easy to work with and doesn’t stick to the sides of the bowl.

Shaping the Rolls

Once your no yeast dinner roll dough is ready, turn it out onto a floured surface. Here’s where you’ll divide the dough into 12-14 pieces.

I find that using a pastry scraper works well for this. First, cut the dough in half, and then divide each half into six or seven equal pieces.

Next, roll each piece into a ball. It’s important to make sure the rolls are roughly the same size so that they bake evenly.

Once they’re all shaped, place them on your prepared baking sheet, spacing them about two inches apart. This gives the rolls enough room to expand while baking.

Baking and Finishing

At this point, you could brush the tops with an egg wash if you want a darker golden-brown finish on your rolls. But personally, I prefer to skip the egg wash and brush them with melted butter as soon as they come out of the oven. This keeps the tops soft and who can resist that buttery flavor.

Bake the rolls in your preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they’re lightly golden brown on top. Once they’re done, take them out and immediately brush the tops with the melted butter.

Divide the dough and form it into balls. Then place them on a silicone lined or parchment paper lined baking sheet, at least two inches apart.

Serving Suggestions For No Yeast Dinner Rolls

These No Yeast Dinner Rolls are perfect served warm with just about any meal. I especially love pairing them with soups and stews, like my Crock Pot Beef Stew, or alongside pasta dishes for a quick weeknight dinner.

And of course, they’re a great addition to holiday meals. Whether it’s Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Easter, these rolls will impress your guests without causing you any extra stress or time in the kitchen.

Storing and Reheating

If you have any leftovers (which is rare in my house), you can store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days.

To reheat, simply pop them in a 350°F oven for about 5 minutes, or until warmed through. You can also microwave them for about 10-15 seconds, though the outside will not be quite as crisp as when reheated in the oven.

  • 2 Tbsp. Unsalted butter, melted

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or silicone baking mat.

In a large mixing bowl add the melted butter, milk, sugar, salt and baking powder together and whisk until incorporated. Gradually add in flour and stir until the dough forms.

If the dough is too wet, add additional flour, 1 tablespoon at a time until the dough is no longer sticky.

Divide dough into 12-14 pieces and roll into balls. Place onto prepared baking sheets, spaced 2 inches apart.

Bake rolls for 20-25 minutes or until tops are golden brown.

Brush with melted butter as soon as they come out of the oven. Serve warm.
