If you ever find yourself craving a delicious steak but don’t want to deal with the hassle of cooking it on the stove or grill make these delicious air fryer steak bites! Juicy and tender pieces of steak that you can serve as a main dish or as a low-carb appetizer to share with friends.
This is a quick and easy recipe that will have you enjoying mouth-watering steak in a fraction of the time that it takes using other cooking methods. Not only is this cooking method faster it also requires very little hands on attention.
That is because the air fryer does all the work for you! Simply put the meat in the basket and then set the timer.
That’s right, no need to spend a long time prepping and cooking a traditional steak dinner. Just mix the ingredients, toss them in the air fryer, and within 15 minutes you will be ready to eat a fantastic dinner.
In addition to being quick and easy, this recipe is also incredibly versatile. Feel free to experiment with different steak seasonings.
You can also marinate the meat in your favorite marinade or serve the bites with your favorite dipping sauce. Although you can customize them each and every time that you make them, by cooking them in the air fryer you can guarantee that they will turn out perfect every time!
What Type of Steak To Use
Ribeye, sirloin, and New York strip steaks all cook well in an air fryer due to their varying levels of fat marbling and tenderness. This fat breaks down as the steak bites cook in the air fryer which adds great flavor.
While ribeye has a rich, beefy flavor with a generous amount of marbling, sirloin is leaner but still tender. And New York strip steak offers a good balance between marbling and leanness.
I have tested all 3 varieties of steak in the air fryer and they all turn out delicious. However, if I had to choose between them, I would choose a ribeye steak every time.
How To Cut Steak To Make Steak Bites
To make steak bites, first trim any excess fat from the edges of the steak. Then cut the steak into 1-inch sections.
The important thing is that the pieces are uniform in size so that they cook evenly.
Marinate Or Not?
Although marinating steak can make it more flavorful, I find it not necessary when cooking steak bites in the air fryer. The combination of seasonings and butter in this recipe helps to create flavorful and juicy steak bites without the need for marinating.
The air fryer’s heat distribution ensures the steak bites remain tender on the inside while still developing a delicious crust on the outside. However, if you prefer soak the pieces in a marinade here is my favorite recipe: Marinated Steak Bites.
Best Way To Season Steak
The combination of melted butter, Montreal steak seasoning, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and onion powder makes for the best steak seasoning.
You can easily find Montreal steak seasoning at most grocery stores. It is a blend of spices including garlic, onion, salt, pepper and paprika and can be found in the spice aisle with other mixed seasonings.
However, you can also choose to make your own steak seasoning if you prefer.
Why Use An Air Fryer To Make Steak Bites
Air frying steak bites is a convenient, hands-off method that cooks the steak evenly and quickly. The high heat of the air fryer and the circulation of the air ensures that each steak bite turns out with a crispy exterior while maintaining a juicy, tender interior.
Preheat The Air Fryer
Preheating your air fryer is important to get that nice exterior crust on the steak. Although if your air fryer doesn’t have a preheat setting, simply run it for 3-5 minutes at 400°F to preheat.
Just be careful when adding the bites to the basket as it will be hot.
Cook Air Fryer Steak Bites In Single Layer
To ensure even cooking, spread the steak bites evenly in a single layer in your air fryer basket. Therefore, depending on the size of your fryer, you may need to cook the steak bites in two batches.
Flipping Optional
Flipping the steak bites halfway through the cooking process will make sure there is even browning on all sides. However it’s not absolutely necessary since the air fryer’s heat circulation will cook the steak through to the desired temperature.
Although if you want the steak bites to look uniform in color, flipping them is the best option.
Steak Doneness
Using an instant-read digital thermometer is the best way to determine the doneness of your steak bites.
- 130°F for medium-rare
- 140°F for medium
- 150°F for medium-well
- 160°F for well-done
